Middle College High School FAQ

Who can enroll in Middle College High School?

Middle College High School is open to students who are high school juniors or seniors.  Students enrolled in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Durham Public Schools, and Orange County Schools may apply to attend Middle College High School

What are the minimum admission requirements?

Minimum requirements for admission to MCHS
 
  • Upon enrollment at MCHS, the candidate must be at least a junior, in terms of high school credit (MCHS consists of 11th and 12th graders only).
  • Minimum of  2.3 GPA (unweighted) at time of application.
  • Candidate must be on schedule to graduate on time.
  • Candidate must have completed the following courses prior to enrolling at MCHS: World History; English 1; English 2; Algebra 1 and Geometry; OR Common Core Math 1 and 2.

What is the total cost of enrolling in Middle College High School

Enrollment in Middle College High School is free.  Students may take college courses at no cost to the family.  Textbooks are also provided to students at no cost.

Is transportation available for students?

Transportation is available at no cost to families.  Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools provides students with a bus pass.  Students may connect with Triangle Transit from any location and the bus takes students directly to Durham Tech Community College at East Lawson Street.

Will college credit earned in high school transfer to other colleges and universities?

Credits will transfer to other colleges and universities.  Students who have graduated from Durham Tech have been accepted to several universities across the United States including UNC-Chapel Hill, High Point University, George Mason, Duke University, Auburn University, and Virginia Tech University.
