Graduation Requirements All students are required to complete a minimum of 20 credits to graduate:
One-half unit of credit is awarded for each course per semester. In addition, all students are required to complete 50 hours of volunteer service learning and pass the required competency tests.
Grade Point Average and Class Rank Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed at the end of each semester and includes all subjects in which a student received a letter grade. It is determined on a four-point system, with grades for Honors and Advanced Placement courses assigned one and two additional points respectively. Cumulative class rank is based on semester grades in all subjects and is computed for all students at the end of each semester. GPAs and class ranks are computed on courses taken with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School System only. Coursework taken outside the system is reflected on the transcript, but is not computed into the GPA. Grades for coursework from UNC-Chapel Hill and the Hill Learning Development Center are computed directly into GPA. East Chapel Hill High School is a highly competitive school where students typically score above the national average on standardized tests. The median GPA and class rank for East Chapel Hill High School are 3.568 and 160 based upon the 320 seniors who have current GPA's for the 2002-03 school year.
Honors courses receive one additional quality point. Advanced Placement courses receive two additional quality points.
2003 *All students enrolled in AP courses are required to take AP exams.
