Introduction
Your Aunt Nellie is a travel agent. She is offering you a five day all-expense paid trip to Mexico. Your bags are packed and you’ve got pesos to spend! You will be visiting sites and collecting souvenirs along the way. All you are required to do is to send your aunt postcards with details of the sites you visit. She also wants to find out information about the souvenirs you purchase and why you selected them. She will be using your information to advertise future trips to Mexico.






The Task
Each day you will choose an historical site to visit and you will buy a souvenir for your aunt. You will write a postcard which describes the site you visited . You will also tell Aunt Nellie what is unique about the souvenir you bought.





Questions To Answer On The Postcards
1. What site did you visit?
2. In what city did you see the site ?
3. Describe what you saw.
4. What will you remember about visiting this place?
5. Describe to Aunt Nellie what you bought her and why you like it.

Copper Canyon ...Copper Canyon is 4 times larger than The Grand Canyon!
Tule Tree...legend of the Tule Tree.
Tule Tree...photo of the Tule Tree is over 2,000 years old!
Valley of The Caves ...see a giant pot over 12 feet high!
Volcano Paricutin ...Paricutin is a volcano that erupted for 9 years!
Voladores...flying Totonac Indians!


Souvenirs to Collect
Milagros...”miracles”, or small offerings of thanks.. photos.
Milagros...information about milagros.
Alebrijes ... wooden animal carvings. A large example.
Alebrijes...text and examples.
Amate paintings...also known as “bark cloth paintings”.
Papel picado ...tissue paper cut out designs.
Papel picado...examples of designs.
Yarn paintings...artwork by the Huichol Indians, who are relatively unaffected by Western Civilization.


Evaluation
Your evaluation will be based on the postcards you write to Aunt Nellie.
•Did you answer each of the questions asked about the sites and souvenirs?
•Did you tell Aunt Nellie things that she could tell customers to encourage them to want to take a trip to Mexico?
•Did you visit cinco sites and buy cinco souvenirs?




Conclusion
You are now a world traveler! You have visited five new places and seen a collection of the local crafts made in Mexico. Your trip was short, but you can go onto the Web and find more sites and souvenirs. You can also go to your public library for books on Mexico.
